The downfall of\ncommunism brought about a difficult transition for the population, however, it\nopened the path to democratic regimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collapse of communism in this region varied from a case to another and\nthe consequences of this process can still be noticed to different degrees even\ntoday. Although most of the countries part of the former Soviet bloc are\nmembers of the NATO or of the EU and the democratic\nsystem in this area seemed to be a solid one, the last ten years indicated a\ndeclining trust of the citizens in political institutions and a degradation of\npolitical systems which keeps generating vocal manifestations of populism\nand&nbsp; euroscepticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Topics:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would like to invite scholars in History, Political Science,\nInternational Relations, Economics or any other related fields to an\ninternational conference about the way in which the fall of communism and its\ninheritance profoundly marked the evolution of Central and Eastern European\ncountries in the past thirty years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of this conference is to analyze the causes and factors which made\npossible the rise of the regimes with such illiberal influences in the Central\nand Eastern European space. New methodological approaches are encouraged.\nSubject areas relevant to this conference may include, but are by no means\nlimited to, the following issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The causes and consequences of the downfall of communism;<\/li><li>The events of 1989 which reshaped and transformed Europe;<\/li><li>The post-communism in the Central and Eastern European space;<\/li><li>&nbsp;NATO and EU as democratization\nfactors\/organizations\/ instruments;<\/li><li>The civil society and its role in the past thirty years;<\/li><li>The road from democray to populism and illiberalism.<\/li><li>&nbsp;Post-communist\nilliberalism &#8211; consequence of incomplete communist modernization vs. reaction\nto social decline in a globalized post-industrial society<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The language of the event will be English. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Paper submission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organizers expect that participants will present papers based on\noriginal research. Therefore, the selected guests are\nexpected to arrive in Bucharest in due time. The Organizing Committee of the\nConference will ensure accommodation for 3 nights, meals during the scheduled\nprogramme as well as coffee breaks and Conference materials.
